yes, its true, but it’s also hard for someone who has Sleep Apnea to lose weight, since it lowers your metabolism, and it barely gives u energy to work, or to go to school.. When doing a healthy diet, you need proper sleep, which is impossible for someone who has sleep apnea..
i myself have to go to a sleep study. i jumped up yesterday off the couch and was knocked to the floor like being hit with a left hook. no oxygen to the brain and had sinus surgery 2 yrs ago. it’s very scary. always happens once you get into a deep sleep
weight loss helps a great deal
Im a twig and I have sleep apnea. weight loss does not always cure it for everyone
why on earth isn’t this guy on a CPAP?!!!
Wow! It is really scary how long he goes between gasping for breath. How can a persons heart take that!!
Who cares weight loss does help a great deal. Nobody said its always the cure, but it does help a great deal.
I dont need to go to a sleep study, I will just video tape myself sleeping. If I see constant activity when im suppose to be in deep sleep, or loud snoring, then I know the problem.
@ACEDcomputers what do u mean who cares. clearly people who would be unhealthy if they lost weight care. and bluestar clearly says if u lose weight it helps a great deal my point is that it doesnt solve the problem for everyone which was clearly stated in my response.
Obviously it doesnt help everyone, but that is irrelevant. It helps the majority of people. You dont make a rule off of exceptions.
You can’t make a rule if there are to many exceptions. And it is very relevant to the millions of people who aren’t overweight and have sleep apnea. If it works the majority of the time then why are the majority of sleep apnea sufferers prescribed CPAP? I’m not trying to tell anyone who is overweight not to lose weight because it will help them even if it’s just a little, but the best option is still CPAP.
Losing weight generally is best for people with mild sleep apnea.
fuck a cpap machine! junk! use 5 pillows and you’ll be fine. get one of those corderou t.v. chairs with arms built in as a wedge. also put a 2×4 piece of wood under the bed legs near your head.
Something to try before going on CPAP: train yourself not to sleep on your back!! If you sleep on your side or chest, the airway will usually stay open on its own–gravity only works one way.
Put a tennis ball in a sock, safety-pin the sock to a t-shirt and wear that to bed. If you try to roll onto your back, you wake up. Eventually, you learn to sleep in a different position. It works wonders for many people and it costs all of $3.
Forgot to add, in case it isn’t obvious, the tennis ball needs to be on the back of the T-shirt
I am a big guy but listen, my sleep specialist told me that I stop breathing 112 times an hour, yes ! an hour and He told me sure weightloss will help significantly but its not a cure.. and you DO NOT HAVE TO BE HEAVY TO HAVE APNEA infact many patients are Children and thin people… I have acute obstructive sleep apnea and watching this video. gonna stay on my diet.. it scared me
Oh my god is that what i look like, i was told i stop breathing for long periods of time also. Its scary for someone who suffers from it to see it in action, i have felt the results all my life but this is a perspective that everyone who has apnea should be forced to watch.
I sleep on my side or stomach…I WISH I could sleep on my back. It helps, but I think I should still get a sleep study. I really thin my memory and weight both have been affected by my sleep.
@Filipinoborn tell me about it I just had my surgery to correct this, I was diagnosed 6 years ago and it completely changed my performance at work not to mention i went from 165 to 225 with the same diet exersize and habits. Hoping I will see a dramatic differance and get back on track.
@BCHAPPYTREES
Doing a sleep study tonight and hopefully a CPAP. Let’s see if I lose those 50 lbs I gained in the last 10 years due to sleep apnea and other conditions.
i am 100 pounds overweight. did not realize lack of sleep contributes to this. I videotaped myself sleeping for 6 hours and it sounds like a horror film. much worse than this guy.
I bet he feels really tired the next day. Hard for our brains to ‘kick’ us awake some times…Sleeping on your side or tummy doesn’t work…if anything it can make it worse. Do some study. I have just today been to a professional and he told me stuff I had never imagined anyone else could know about me. Tummy sleeping makes the throat collapse more, side sleeping same thing. Weight has little to do with it. ( I am a skinny female and have suffered all my life!)
I had the sleep study done. I had 318 episodes in one night. I sleep with my CPAP every night and have for the past 3 years. I snored like a lumberjack.
@Filipinoborn
I lost 28 lbs on weight watchers and I have sleep apnea, You can do it.
@bridget1008 I didn’t say it was impossible. It’s just harder for us to lose weight, since we have sleep apnea. I bet you’ll lose weight faster if you don’t have sleep apnea, and on weight watchers program. U still need a proper sleep to do proper diet. With sleep apnea, it’s impossible to get proper sleep. I’ve also lost 60lbs. from exercising, and by eating less, but I just wish that I didn’t have this disorder, so I can go on and stay awake for the rest of the day..
