In deep sleep, with loss of Consciousness, do we still exist?
Inasmuch as there exists nothing, not even the I Am/Self, when we have "left the world" of perception through deep sleep, can we claim to exist? What is absent? What is present?
Oops! i meant to use a lower case "c" on consciousness. My question is: Is Consciousness (capital "C" intended to refer to our Higher Consciousness) still present in deep sleep?

Sleep Products:
Yes we still exist. Sleep doesn’t take us out of this world.
Nothing leaves as long as the heart keep beating.
Sure we still exist, although from an overview we perceive ourselves as ascending to a higher plane of comfort.
Consciousness remains always as It is the ‘What Is’ from which all beings have their being. What is absent, until one is awake in that consciousness is the awareness. Mortal man is aware of a very small realm of being but that being is not limited by time or space. It reaches out infinite in all directions from the Center of Being, that place from which you perceive.
Namaste’
There is always some amount of mental activity.
The Higher Consciousness always exists and so does the consciousness. The soul is strongly connected to our body but the spirit which contains the consciousness can leave the body for a while during sleep. At that time most of us are not aware where the spirit is. Tradition says that the spirit is linked to the universe and the soul to the Earth. So it is possible that our spirit makes some kind of astral travel or visits a realm of the afterlife. It is unclear where the spirit can dwell during sleep.
Some people experience night terror, where they vividly see and experience the presence of other beings. Some scientists think that people who believe they are abducted by aliens experience this during a night terror event. That might be an indication that the spirit leaves or can leave the body and go to ’spiritual’ places.
There are 2 types of sleep, REM sleep (Rapid Eye Movement) and non-REM.
In the former we dream, in that the higher consciousness, that is the self, the spirit soul is still within the body. But in the non-REM, the higher consciousness leaves the body to be rejuvenated as it find itself limited in the body. The spirit soul is part of the spirit super soul and it is same in quality but not in quantity. It like spark of fire. It finds itself constrained in the body, hence it finds escape for refreshing itself every night when we go into deep sleep. It is faraway still within reach to be awakened back to the body it inhibits.
Hence we feel fresh the longer we remain in non-REM sleep
Yes of course. As per the latest findings by scientists, we have deep sleep only for two hours in a night, that is without dreams, in this position our brains takes complete rest, being inactive, but our consciousness never gets inactive. It is the brain, as soon as some body disturbs us, we at once wake up due to waking consciousness. Sleeping is concerned with brain only, that is why sleeping pills work. During unconsciousness, the conscious travels deep within the realms of eternal worlds..
Apart from this we are still sleeping while so called waking, due to ignorance of mind, when the death knocks us, we leave this body and come to know the reality, that that was a dream like.

The simple answer to this question is the answer to this question: do trees exist? Trees have no brain and, therefore, according to humans have no consciousness. I think it would be very egocentric to say that they owe our existence to our perceving them and would not account for the fact that land and water existed before our species existed on earth. Existence does not depend on consciousness.
Maybe an illustration, or rather an analogy, will help. I give you a thumb-drive or a pen-drive. There is a lot of information stored in that thumb-drive. But you don’t know what it is until it is brought to the surface. You use a device. maybe a CPU or laptop or something, and bring the contents to the surface. They appear on a screen or a sound comes from some speaker. Maybe it’s words, maybe pictures, maybe only sound. Only then do you become aware of some of its contents. A lot more information still remains stored inside that thumb-drive, depending on its capacity, 1 megabyte, 5 gigabytes, etc. So it is with our consciousness, sub-conscience and deep conscience. There are layers of consciousness. We are aware only of what is playing on the surface, what we are seeing, hearing, feeling, thinking, etc. That is the outer layer called outer awareness. That is the awareness with which we conduct our daily lives. Basically we live in that outer awareness. But our information storage capacity is beyond description. Only God knows how many gigabytes. There is a lot more information stored inside our being that we are not consciously aware of. We know it but we don’t know (are not aware) that we know it. All that lies below the surface. That is what we call sub-consciousness, deep conscience, etc. We are told that our consciousness is connected with the greater Existence, the Cosmic Mind. And through that connection we are able to tap into the treasures of the entire Universe, the entire Cosmos. What we have lost is the knowledge, the know-how, to do it. A few, a very few, of us still do, or at least seem to. So yes, consciousness is not lost in deep sleep. Only awareness, outer awareness, is temporarily lost. The ‘I’ continues to exist. The false perception of your identity continues to exist. What may be lost is the awareness of it. So the ‘I’ is present but the awareness is absent. You may say your ego hibernates in deep sleep.
Friend,
When we are slipping into SUSHUPTI ( THE DREAMLESS DEEP SLEEP) , the mind along with all sense organs withdraws into the Atman. It experiences the Brahmaanandam, extreme happiness .
So , that is why after getting up, we say that WE HAD A HIGHLY REFRESHING SLEEP , A SLEEP THAT WAS SO GOOD.
So Some ONE EXPERIENCED THIS HAPPINESS, THOUGH THE MIND AND SENSE ORGANS ARE ABSENT.HE IS THE SAAKSHI ( THE WITNESS).
SO UNDOUBTEDLY WE EXIST, ALL EXIST IN DEEP SLEEP.
Yes, one still exists in the form of consciousness and awareness in the dreamless sleep
and it is due to their existence
that the being realizes in the morning that the night was dreamless.
I think, it is the true self of the being
that remains awakened even during the dreamless state of the being.
So the mind and the ego is absent during the dreamless state,
while the awakened self or the consciousness that is beyond the perception of the mind
is still present there.
we really limit our understanding of this experience
with terminolgy
everything is still present in deep sleep
just like everything
((except the body))
is still present in death
we are great masses of energy
receptors and all
this never changes
in the reality as we know it
we are eternal beings
our physical state is full of evolution
our spiritual state constantly evolves
everything about us and our enviornment evolves
so…whats does energy evolve into..
cant wait to find out
But nothing is lost really, not even THAT which is termed as consciousness. It remains through out, it was there before you took form, It was there when you are in form, It is gonna be when you no longer in form too, See that`s why they seek for IT, because when they realize IT then they realize even death is simply a birth too. A birth into IT`s absolute self, the thing here is even life could be IT`s absolute self too. No difference. Shiva and Shakti is the same. Non existence and existence is the same.
Don`t even hold on to existence because it is the duality of non existence. When your two becomes one to you then you become one with them too. Then you no longer “exist“ in existence or non existence. Even the word “existence“ would sound funny to you, when did you not exist to even think about non existence Shiva ? Even as non existence you exist Shiva lol. A little crazy huh ?
Can you allow the two to become one ?
