CPAP Continuous Positive Airway Pressure
www.imdb.com www.beachbody.com www.facebook.com Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) This is a bit of what I go through. Here is more on the subject: Forty-five percent of normal adults snore at least occasionally, and 25 percent are habitual snorers. Problem snoring is more frequent in males and overweight persons and it usually grows worse with age. Snoring sounds are caused when there is an obstruction to the free flow of air through the passages at the back of the mouth and nose. Only recently have the adverse medical effects of snoring and its association with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS) been recognized. Various methods are used to alleviate snoring and/or OSA. They include behavior modification, sleep positioning, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP), and Laser Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty (LAUP), and jaw adjustment techniques. What Is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)? Nasal CPAP delivers air into your airway through a specially designed nasal mask or pillows. The mask does not breathe for you; the flow of air creates enough pressure when you inhale to keep your airway open. CPAP is considered the most effective nonsurgical treatment for the alleviation of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. If your otolaryngologist determines that the CPAP treatment is right for you, you will be required to wear the nasal mask every night. During this treatment, you may have to …

The fuse in the humidifier is faulty on the early ones of that model. Alot of people tend to fill the humidifier while its on the warming plate, water would get into the unit, short it out, and it would not blow the fuse.
It caused several units to catch on fire.
sorry for the long break and not noticing your reply.
To check to see if your affected, call respironics with your serial number.
some info in the next post.
Respironics, has received complaints of failures of the AC inlet connector on the REMstar Heated Humidifiers manufactured between December 2001 and April 2003. A small number of these failures have resulted in thermal damage to the humidifier enclosure, and there is a remote possibility that a thermal failure could result in the ignition of materials external to the device.
This action includes only the model 1005792, U1005792, R1005792, SC1005792, AC1005792, and 1007861.
hope that helps. contact your home health care provider if you have one of the affected units.
How much was the surgery?
What would happen if the hose for the airflow came off while you were sleeping.
And you had the mask on with no air coming into it.
hey, I’m a med student and I found your vid really helpful – thanks sooo much for posting this for our knowledge! It’s really useful, and all the best!

There’s a continuous exhaust system (hole) so air is always escaping. If they didn’t have that you would be rebreathing your exhaled air. Personally, I mega relate with this guy, so an added caveat is the exhaust noise has to be the most irritating noise to me since it is so close (darth vader).
OK seriously awesome “clapper” at the end =)
Other wise, just a great vid that is real insightful to what sleep apnea is about. Great job, I’m almost identical to you the only thing I would add is for the audience. Make sure you see a sleep specialist and make sure you see an ears nose mouth specialist before treatment.
no dangly thing lol
Damn, my dad got tested a few weeks ago, he averaged 242 times per hour
You might be ineterested to know that studies have shown that learning to play the didgeridoo (especially circular breathing) can really help this condition.

Shawn, Your video compelled me to actually signup for youtube in order to thank you for posting. Not a real dignifying situation and yet you went for it. I have my sleep study sched for next week. My wife says I’m so bad I’ll no doubt need two machines. I’m excited about getting a good nights sleep for the first time in a long time. Thank you for the encouragement. Love the comments from others to you. Made me laugh. Regards. Todd
Thanks for your help I have just been told I have obstructive sleep apnea and will get my cpap machine in one months time. You explain this condition well.
This almost made me cry. I figured out today that i problaby am suffering from sleep apnea, and it feels really good to have an definition of what’s wrong with me and knowing there’s a way to help me. I understand perfectly the background-music, because i think that’s how i would feel if i had a way out of my sleeping troubles and could finally have go to bed without having to worry about getting enough air.
the science is not quite what you said. In OSA, ur brain is still sending signals to the muscles around ur lungs (like the diaphragm) telling them to contract so u can breathe in. However, ur UPPER AIRWAY muscles aren’t staying open when u fall asleep so no air can reach ur lungs in the first place! So basically, all the CPAP does is esssentially blow open those floppy upper airway muscles in ur throat allowing air to reach ur lungs and thus good old oxygen to enter ur bloodstream. VOILA!
It’s like the cheesy educational videos that the CPAP companies make, but better! Great job explaining and thanks for posting this.
ps – smart mask selection. the new model of your mask is called the Quattro (just minor updates – quieter exhaust, bit better seal, fine-tune adjustment) – always good to stay on the replacement schedule.
I don’t understand why, after all that surgery, you still need CPAP ? I’ve been on CPAP for about 2 years now. It was very tough to get used to and the testing was a pain. But I stuck with it and really feel addicted to it now. Last year I was on a cruise and forgot to bring a critical part. So I had no CPAP and slept horribly.
