This happens to me all the time. Taking Seroquel is the only thing that helps me. It puts me right out and in a couple of days the mania starts to subside. Talk to your doc because not sleeping can cause serious mania and even psychosis.

This isn't a conventional medicine, unless your in CA or some other state that will allow it's use, and I should say that not all people are helped by this, but I really want to get off my medication and on medical marijuana. There's research that you can look up how it can serve as a mood stabilizer, an upper, and a downer, depending on your frequency is with what pole. I'm bipolar by the way. I've smoked for years and it worked fine most of the time, with the frequency and severity of my swings. The problem I ran into, after doing research recently is that you don't really know what your getting. there's sativa strains that are a great stimulant, and indica strains that are a great sedative, and numerous hybrids in between.

I do want to say that I haven't smoked for a year, I'm on medication again, and I'm seeing side effects that I hate and I'm in hypomania as I type this. It's 7 am and no I'm not a morning person. I didn't sleep last night. My sleep cycle, besides the other potential uses of marijuana, I know would be stabilized.

A safer choice, but I wanted to bring it to your attention at least, is exercise. I went for a 3 mile walk this morning at 3 am, I feel calmer, still hypomanic, but not so anxious, not feeling like I'm going to burst.

Good luck, this shit sucks, doesnt it? lol

I would strongly advise against the sleeping pills. This happens to me on occasion as well. I usually try doing something like either seriously scrubbing my entire house, it focuses my mind at the same time as wearing me out, it also feels good to accomplish something, if I am in such a bad state, that I can't manage to focus (being manic and all), I will exercise myself into exhaustion, no weights or anything dangerous, but running or walking etc. If you need to call your doctor and ask for something for bipolar disorder rather than a sleeping pill.

I had no idea bi-polar can do this to a person. you need a psychiatrist. My suggestion is to pick one out and call and ask to talk to him (if they will let you) and ask for the right medicines to be delivered because you are in no shape to be driving after not sleeping for 5 days. Pray and trust in Jesus. He will help you especially if you are humble and pray earnestly. (Not saying you are in need of being humble---just saying this is a requirement to get prayer answered). He is able to heal anyone of anything.

Jesus heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Ps. 147:3 He is near to the crushed in spirit. Ps. 34:18 He came to set the captive free (Isa. 61:1-2) He will make you into a tree of righteousness, the planting of the Lord that he may be glorified (Verse 3).

Also, I will pray for you.

what are you on for your bipolar? most mood stabilizers like lamictal can cause problems sleeping. it took me a few weeks to adapt, and he may realize this and not be concerned yet. if you arent on meds, you may want to look into it. they can give you peace of mind and allow you to sleep in many cases.

Gosh. I HATE when doctors prescribe sleep medication for insomnia. I would stop taking the medication, it has long-term effect on the brain.

You should learn some techniques to help relax you. You can buy audio tracks, mp3s, or CDs made specifically for relaxation. You can find these online and possibly at the library.

Also, one technique that I give my patients is to only use your bed for SLEEPING. Don't sit on your bed and watch television (or lay down) - do that on a couch. Don't do homework on your bed - use a desk. Don't eat on your bed - eat at a table...ETC. This way, the BED will be used for sleeping, and your subconscious will associate BED with SLEEP. Next, start at the very bottom of your toes. Squeeze your toe muscles 3 times slowly. Next move up to your calves and squeeze 3 times slowly. Move up to your legs...and so on, until you reach the tip of your head. By this time, you should be very relaxed.

Best of luck!

Take some time to workout. Running helps clear the mind and energize you. You will sleep better then ever, a deeper more restful sleep.
